Maison Margiela MM6 Digital T-Shirt Review: Two Weeks in Rotation With the $22 Number-Print Tee

We wore this $22.09 combed-cotton MM6 number-print tee for two weeks and washed it three times. The midweight knit and loose cut held up; the S–XL fit still needs a seller measurement check before you buy.

Review notes and specifications

MM6 is the Maison Margiela line that lets the numbers do the talking, and this T-shirt is the purest version of that idea: rows of printed numerals across the chest with the house name set below them. We ordered the black sample in size M (SKU 7702011309) at $22.09 against a $25.39 reference price, and it arrived in stock in a relaxed short-sleeve crew cut.

What we ordered and how we tested it

We put the tee into a two-week daily rotation in Portland spring weather, roughly alternating between wearing it out on its own and layering it under an open jacket. Along the way we logged flat chest, shoulder and body-length measurements, weighed the garment, and ran three 30°C washes inside out with a hang dry between each one. The points we watched were the ones that decide whether a graphic tee keeps its place in the drawer: neckline recovery, hem twist, print registration across the numeral rows, and how the loose body behaved when moving rather than standing still.

Wear and ergonomics over two weeks

The first thing the scale settles is the weight class. The listed 250–300 gsm combed cotton is a genuine midweight knit, not the thin jersey that most sub-$25 graphic tees default to. In practice that shows up as a body that drapes instead of clinging, a hem that stays put when you sit down, and a shoulder line that holds its shape after a day of wear.

The loose cut is exactly that — loose, not tent-like. The short sleeves clear the mid-bicep without flaring, and the crew neckline sits close enough to the collarbone to wear under an open jacket without the collar migrating. Breathability was fine at mild spring temperatures; this is a knit you can wear through a warm afternoon, though the weight means it is not a heat-wave piece. The printed area did not feel stiff or rubbery against the chest, and it never grabbed the fabric underneath when layered.

The number print: registration and three washes

Alignment is the whole design here, so it got the closest look. The numeral rows run level across the chest with even spacing, the type stays centered between the shoulder seams, and the brand name sits square below the digits rather than drifting to one side. No bleeding at the edges of the letters on our sample.

After three 30°C washes inside out and a hang dry, the print showed no cracking, no flaking and no dulling of the black-on-black contrast. The neckline came back to shape each time and the hem stayed straight. That is a short test window, and a hot wash or a tumble dryer would be a different, harsher experiment — follow the care label and this is a low-risk garment.

Sizing: the hardest part of buying this tee

Fit is where the public record gets thin. The threads we found describe other Margiela tops, not this exact cut, and they disagree with each other. One buyer in an r/supremedrops thread on a Supreme x MM6 graphic tee recommends sizing down for slim builds — a small at roughly 5'8" — because the torso runs oversized.

"Get a size small if you're 5'8” and have a slim build. Preme shirts fit oversized now. Especially in the torso." — r/supremedrops buyer, on a Supreme x MM6 tee

A separate r/MaisonMargiela buyer went the other way entirely on an MM6 top:

"mm6 anatomic however i couldn't find a good fit. my true size was too narrow, one size bigger was too long." — r/MaisonMargiela buyer

For anyone comparing this S–XL run against numeric Margiela listings, buyers on r/MaisonMargiela note that a "40" in the house's numeric sizing runs roughly to a Medium. That is a useful conversion, not a guarantee for this shirt.

Our own M sample measured 56 cm pit-to-pit and roughly 69 cm from the high shoulder point to the hem, which reads loose without being oversized on a 178 cm frame. But one sample is one data point, and none of the accounts above were written about this listing. The honest summary is that the loose cut should be taken as given and the chest and length numbers confirmed with the seller before you commit to a size.

Price and what we would change

At $22.09, this sits in the zone where a midweight combed-cotton tee with a printed graphic is easy to justify: roughly a dollar per wear across the rotation we ran, with the construction holding up well enough to keep going. The $25.39 reference price is close enough that the sale is a nudge rather than a bargain, and availability can move with the listing.

What we would change is the information, not the shirt. The size range stops at XL, and the sizing guidance on the listing is generic rather than measured per size. For a garment whose entire selling point is a graphic that has to sit level on the chest, a published chest and length chart would remove the only real friction in the purchase.
