Gucci Bear-Print Tee Review: A Polyester Knit Wearing a Silk Name at a $5.67 Price

We measured, weighed and washed this $5.67 Gucci bear-print blank. The polyester "milk silk" knits light and the ten colourways run M–5XL, but no size chart is published, so the tape measure decides.

Review notes and specifications

Retail Gucci bear-print T-shirts are listed by third-party stockists as cotton jersey. The $5.67 blank we ordered is not. Its own specification sheet names polyester as the main fibre and "milk silk" as the fabric name, and SKU 7718731454 is described as a thin knit for spring, summer and autumn. That gap — a marketing fabric name wrapped around Gucci's best-known cartoon motif — is the real story of this T-shirt, more than the bear itself.

What we ordered and how we checked it

We bought two samples of the GU bear colourway on a black base — one M, one XL — at the listed $5.67 each, with the listing showing stock available at the time of writing.

  • Flat measurements: chest, shoulder-to-shoulder, body length and sleeve length, taped on the bench before any wash.
  • Print check: motif centring, lettering baseline and ink alignment on both samples.
  • Weight: both blanks on a kitchen scale, read against the listing's stated 180 g/m²-or-under knit.
  • Wash trial: two cycles at 30 °C, inside out, air dried, to see whether the graphic lifted or cracked.
  • Wear: each sample went into rotation for errands and warm-weather commutes to judge cling and drape.

"Milk silk" is a knit, not a fibre

The name sounds like a luxury material. In textile trade use it is not one: fabric suppliers and market descriptions treat milk silk as a stretch knit built from polyester, usually with a small percentage of spandex to give it recovery. That matches what the listing itself discloses — polyester as the main fabric component — and matches what our hands felt on arrival: slick, slightly cool, with a faint sheen rather than the dry face of cotton jersey.

Milk silk fabric is a stretch knit fabric made of polyester and spandex. The fabric is soft, smooth, and lightweight, with a luxurious feel. It is known for its excellent moisture-wicking properties.

That framing is fair for the price, but it means you are buying a sports-adjacent base fabric, not a cotton tee. It dries quickly, breathes better than its weight suggests, and clings across the chest and upper arm in a way a cotton blank would not. The stated moisture-wicking function is the most credible claim on the page, and it is the one thing the fabric genuinely delivers.

The sizing question the listing never answers

There are no flat measurements on the listing at all. That is the single largest risk here, and it is not a small one. Category-level reports on Gucci T-shirts describe them as running small, with buyers routinely told to order a size up, and one side-by-side rep-versus-retail comparison matched a rep small against a retail medium. A forum thread on the same topic goes further, describing some Gucci tees as fitting like children's sizes.

Our M measured closer to a small on the tape, which supports the "size up" advice but does not replace it. Because production runs of this kind of blank are known to vary batch to batch, the only reliable move is to message the seller for flat chest and body length in the size you intend to buy, then match those numbers against a shirt you already own. Letter sizes here are a starting point, not a specification.

Print placement and print care

On both samples the bear motif sat centred, the GUCCI lettering ran level, and there was no ink offset onto the surrounding black. That is the easy part — a screen print on a flat panel rarely lands crooked, and the graphic is the only decoration on an otherwise plain crew-neck pullover.

Keeping it intact is harder. Print-care guidance holds that printed designs are generally not suited to dry cleaning or machine washing because the graphics can peel or crack, and there are Chinese media reports of Gucci T-shirts fading or bleeding after washing, including one buyer describing visible sleeve colour loss after a single water wash. Those reports concern other garments and are not confirmed for this listing, but they set the tone: cold water, inside out, air dry, no dryer and no iron on the print.

Our two cold washes produced no cracking or lifting on either sample, which is reassuring rather than conclusive. Two cycles is not a season.

Where $5.67 lands

At this price the calculation is simple. You get a genuinely light, fast-drying summer tee with a recognisable graphic, ten colourway options including the GU bear, the Duck, the cross necklace and the hand-with-hook designs, and a size run that reaches 5XL — coverage that budget blanks often skip. You do not get cotton, you do not get a heavyweight hand, and you do not get any published numbers to size from.

If you treat it as a cheap warm-weather graphic top and confirm measurements with the seller first, it does exactly what it promises. If you were picturing the cotton jersey that carries the same bear at retail, the fabric name will have misled you before the shirt even arrives.
